Essential Functions |
|||||
| Establish contact with homeless people on the streets in South Los Angeles. Build rapport with individuals Conduct a short intake with clients Inform and educate homeless individuals of services available to them at the Drop in Center Provide referrals to appropriate agencies to address client needs. Engage clients on various occasions to ensure that they are aware of services . Input client information into HMIS Maintain accurate log of client contact in the field Outreach and develop working relationships with other agencies whose services will be beneficial to clients. |

Minimum Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Knowledge: |
|||||
| Experience as a homeless person and/or a minimum of 2 years of conducting street outreach or working with the homeless population | |||||
| Skills: | |||||
| Bilingual Spanish preferred Basic computer word processing skills necessary Ability to speak and write effectively |
|||||
| Abilities: | |||||
| Ability to work with and communicate effectively with the homeless and minority populations Ability to work non-traditional schedule on occasion |

| Environmental Conditions (Working Conditions) | |||||
| This job includes walking outdoors and entails engaging homeless persons on the streets. Incumbent may be exposed to verbally and/or physically aggressive clients. | |||||
| Physical Requirements | |||||
| This position typically requires at least 20 hours of walking /20 sitting weekly and carrying (max. 10lbs) of client outreach materials | |||||
| Mental Requirements | |||||
| Candidate must be able to follow oral and written assignments, work with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and ethnicities and engage homeless individuals and families on a regular basis. | |||||
